About Tribal Mango We run a small family business located in the
heart of Cumbria. Maybe because we live in a rural community
set amongst open countryside we feel attracted to things that are
natural and sustainable rather than man-made and polluting.
That is certainly one reason why the range on offer is handmade and
most of it is made from natural materials. For example, we were very
pleased to come across the great bags
made from jute, a
material
which is not only highly durable, natural and sustainable but
biodegradable too. Another reason for the range being
handmade is
that we like the idea that individuals matter; although many of us like
to use fashion accessories we don’t always want to buy mass produced
things made by large faceless companies. At Tribal Mango we
prefer to wear things that have been made by individuals who benefit by
being paid fairly for what they produce. If business, however
small, can encourage this then that can only be a good thing.
Ethical and Fair Trade
Everything we offer is sourced from
developing countries from ethical and fair trade suppliers.
All of our suppliers operate using ethical standards concerning
working conditions, pay and child labour, and some operate according
to the criteria set by the British Association for Fair Trade
Shops. For further details about ethical and fair trade

Business Ethic
Part
of our business ethic is that we should give something back which is
why Tribal Mango will donate £1 for every order of £25 or more to The
Smile Train. The Smile Train is a charity whose mission is to
provide safe,
quality treatment for clefts (gaps in the upper lip and/or palate) free
of charge to children living in poverty in developing countries.
The Smile Train work with local doctors and hospitals in
providing
free training, equipment and financial aid in over 70 countries, and as
a result over 300,000 children have been treated since 2000. Children
with clefts born to poor families in developing countries can
suffer immense hardship and some are even killed or abandoned; all for
a condition which can cost as little as £150 and take as little as 45
minutes to treat.

These
are
pictures of Juliana from the Philippines, before and after treatment.
Juliana
was abandoned by her mother only days after her birth and was left with
a stranger who took her to a home for orphaned and abandoned children
as
she had problems feeding her and could not afford the treatment Juliana
needed. At the home they arranged for
Juliana to have her
cleft
lip and palate repaired through a Smile Train partner in
Manilla,
enabling Juliana to have a bright future.
